In the 1800s, travelers visited this plantation site by horseback, carriage or steam boating up the Big Cypress River to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of East Texas.  Still today, you will enjoy the hospitality of the Twin Oaks Plantation.

Twin Oaks Plantation Inn, located on a pre-Civil War plantation site, is nestled among towering trees.  The antebellum home is inspired by the D’Evereux Plantation, built in the 1840s.  Mr. Julien Sidney D’Evereux became a successful planter and a Texas legislator, representing the East Texas region of the state.  This site was once a large sugar plantation, situated between two major arteries of commerce, the Big and Little Cypress Rivers.  Another interesting feature of Twin Oaks is the Civil War-era water well lined with a double wall of slave-made bricks.  “The Belle”, our Victorian guest house, has five bedrooms and the poolside cottage suite.  Guests are invited to stay in one of the two suites in the antebellum main house, as well.

The historical inn’s tranquil location makes a perfect setting for weddings, parties, corporate events and other social affairs.

History of Jefferson, Texas

Located near Caddo Lake and Lake O’ the Pines, Jefferson is one of Texas’ oldest towns, becoming part of the United States territories because of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase.  The hanging Spanish moss and the tall pines welcome the many visitors to the historic town that some refer to as “the mini Charleston”.  Take time to read a few of the Historical Markers, visit museums, tour the historical hotels and Victorian homes, enjoy excellent dining and great shopping.  Jefferson was known as a riverport town, docking many steamboats from New Orleans, Louisiana.  During the Civil War, Jefferson was very important to the Confederacy providing major transport of supplies to the army.  Today, Jefferson is a quaint Texas town with a lot of history, hospitality, and hints of its heyday.  The plantation gates are open, awaiting the arrival of your carriage.
